About this song...

Despite the fact that I now live 1000 road miles from the nearest ocean, it still calls to me—we are old friends. I grew up going to Marco Island and Sanibel and the keys for weekend escapes with my family and was so accustomed to thinking of the water as my relief from day-to-day desperation that I sat in school drawing countless "life's a beach" sunset scenarios combat the drudgery. Ironically, here in my landlocked home, I've never been this happy—but still, the ocean calls, and her memory offers a soothing sense of ambiguity when I need it most.

The instrumental prelude is called Remembrance because part of the pattern is something I've been playing on whatever piano I came across since high school ... it reminds me of how, in a way, all of my music is really one song.

Lyrics: Melissa Axel (ASCAP)

my head is swimming
body aching
overwhelming
concentrating
fueling fervor
running back

can't seem to stay on track
horizon stretching
distant still
ocean lapping
crashing through
madness, just let go
of me ...

I can't breathe
in your arms
I am lost
in the heavy
wake
of you.
